Haiti Emergency Appeal
Raise your hands up for Haiti
The 7.0 earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010 caused widespread damage to the Western Hemisphere's poorest country. The earthquake, the latest in a series of emergencies--including the 2008 hurricanes, food insecurity, poor governance and limited infrastructure-- poses a new threat to an already vulnerable population. Early reports indicate that buildings, homes, health centres, shops, electricity and water supplies have all been damaged in the capital Port au Prince.
YCI is appealing for funds to support local organizations in Haiti to provide essential emergency services and support to children and youth affected by the disaster. Following Hurricane Ivan in 2006-2007 in Grenada, YCI worked with local partners and young people to provide psycho-social support to youth and implement reconstruction projects and has implemented youth-focused programs with local partners in numerous Caribbean and South American countries.
